KANKAKEE, IL., May 18, 2026 – St. Mary’s Hospital, a member of the not-for-profit Prime Healthcare Foundation, was honored last Thursday evening as the Manteno Chamber of Commerce’s 2026 Large Business of the Year recipient. The criteria for the award recognition focuses on businesses that demonstrate outstanding leadership, excellence in service, strong community involvement, and a
continued commitment to making a positive impact throughout our region.

The Chamber notes that it also looks closely at organizations that consistently support community initiatives, invest in innovation and growth, and help improve the quality of life for the people they serve. One voting member added, “St. Mary’s stood out not only because of its long-standing history and dedication to healthcare, but because of the way the organization continues to show up for our community both inside and outside the hospitals’ walls.”

Patrick Kerrwood, CEO of St. Mary’s, accepted the award late last week, along with Maria Wleklinski, chief nursing officer, and Sarah Mickler, St. Mary’s chief financial officer. Kerrwood said, “This recognition is truly humbling for us, for our organization, and we will always feel we’re an important part of the Manteno community, and more broadly, Kankakee County.”

Ashley Peterson, President & CEO of Manteno’s Chamber of Commerce summed it up this way: “St. Mary’s Hospital has been a cornerstone of our community for generations. Their commitment to compassionate care, innovation, and community involvement continues to make a lasting impact throughout our region. We are incredibly grateful for the leadership and support they provide to so many individuals and families every single day.”
